Air Filter Size Finder for Florida Homes
Look up the filter from the air handler or furnace model number, using manufacturer installation manuals and spec sheets — not a guess and not a store SKU. If this lookup does not have that sheet, it says so. Then you read the old cardboard or measure the slot. A 20×25×1 is usually about 19.5×24.5×¾ in your hand. In Florida humidity, a dense 1-inch MERV 13 can ice a coil and leave the house clammy — MERV 8 or 11 is the safer everyday pick on a thin rack. Tool only. No shop phone.

Nominal vs actual (when you have to measure)
Stores sell nominal sizes. The filter in your hand is usually about ¼ to ½ inch smaller so it slides. Buy the printed size. If the print is gone, measure and round up to the common nominal size.
MERV in Florida humidity
On a 1-inch slot, MERV 8 is the everyday pick and MERV 11 is fine on many blowers. MERV 13 in a thin 1-inch can cut airflow, freeze the coil, and leave the house clammy. A 4-inch media cabinet has more area, so higher MERV is more realistic there. Match the filter to the slot you actually have. Common questions
How do I find what size air filter I need?
Try the indoor model against manufacturer IOM / product data first. Miss? Buy the printed size on the old cardboard. Print gone? Measure and round up to nominal. Example: tape ~19.5×24.5×¾ → buy 20×25×1.
Nominal vs actual — which do I buy?
Buy the printed nominal (20×25×1). Actual is smaller so it slides. Do not buy the tape numbers unless you used the measure path to convert them.
Can I use MERV 13 in a 1-inch Florida rack?
Often no. Dense 1-inch MERV 13 can starve airflow and ice a coil in Florida humidity. MERV 8–11 is the safer everyday pick on a thin rack; 4-inch media cabinets handle higher MERV better.
Why “no buy size” for my model?
Only sourced IOM rows print a size. Missing Carrier/other sheets stay honest misses. Measure, or wait until that sheet is added — we will not invent it.
Can I use a 4-inch filter in a 1-inch rack?
No. The rack is the rack. Media cabinets take 4–5 inch filters; 1-inch rails do not.
